Cette légende raconte que, lors de la conquête des îles Canaries, une princesse Guanche s’est enfuie pour échapper à ses ravisseurs. La jeune femme a trouvé refuge dans la cime du millénaire dragonnier (El Drago Milenario). Les conquistadors tirèrent leurs flèches sur le dragonnier, espérant atteindre la princesse. Ils virent de grandes gouttes rouges tomber et crurent qu’il s’agissait du sang de la princesse Guanche. Pensant l’avoir blessée, ils abandonnèrent leur poursuite. En réalité, c’était la sève rouge du dragonnier qui coulait, sauvant ainsi la vie de la princesse Guanche. Cette sève rouge est également connue sous le nom de sang de dragon.
