Guanche-Prinzessin und der Drachenblutbaum

Diese Legende erzählt, dass während der Eroberung der Kanarischen Inseln eine Guanchen-Prinzessin vor den Eroberern floh, als diese versuchten, sie zu entführen. Die junge Frau flüchtete in die Krone des tausendjährigen Drachenblutbaums (El Drago Milenario). Die „Konquistadoren“ schossen mit ihren Pfeilen auf den Drachenbaum, in der Hoffnung, die Frau zu treffen. Sie sahen große rote Tropfen fallen und vermuteten, dass es sich dabei um das Blut der Guanche-Prinzessin handeln musste. Die Konquistadoren zogen sich zurück. In Wirklichkeit tropfte roter Saft vom Drachenblutbaum und rettete der Guanche-Prinzessin das Leben. Dieser rote Saft wird auch Drachenblut genannt
