In other words: how to grow a mini Baobab like a true tree whisperer
It looks like it accidentally wandered into a Pixar movie. Its trunk is thicker than the ego of an average influencer. And it comes from a place where nature is just absurdly beautiful.
Meet the Adansonia grandidieri – the giant baobab of Madagascar. And yes: you can grow this tree legend yourself. How? Read on.
The Adansonia grandidieri is the largest and most iconic of the six baobab species in Madagascar. This gigantic tree can grow up to 30 meters tall, with a trunk so thick you could build a house inside it (they really do, by the way).
It is also called the “Tree of Life.” And rightly so:
Small disclaimer: the version you grow at home will probably still fit on your windowsill (for now 😉).

Ready to grow a piece of Madagascar in your living room? Let’s go.
Baobabs are tropical, so they love warmth. Think 25-30°C as the germination temperature. Place them in a warm spot or use a heating mat.
Germination time? It can vary from 2 to 6 weeks, so get your zen mode on.
Once you have a sprout? Congrats! Now it’s time to raise your baobab like a loving plant parent.
Yup! Just like some people in January. The baobab loses its leaves in winter and sometimes looks dead. But: that’s normal. Leave it alone, give little to no water, and it will come back in spring like a phoenix from the ashes. Or well, like a tree from a branch.

In the wild? Yes. At your home? Not really.
You can easily keep your baobab in check as a bonsai-style mini tree. It grows slowly, so no worries about your roof coming off.
If you want it to grow bigger? Just give it more space, sun, and time.
At Drakenbloedboom.com you’ll find fresh seeds of the Adansonia grandidieri, carefully selected, packaged, and ready for your growing success.
Whether you’re an experienced grower or just starting out: growing a baobab isn’t rocket science – it’s plant magic. With a little love, light, and patience, you’ll soon grow a mini baobab that even the tree whisperer would envy.
And be honest… how many people do you know with a tree at home that looks like an upside-down root with superpowers?
