A dragon's blood tree from Socotra. Few people know that Socotra is an island in the Indian Ocean that belongs to war-torn Yemen. Inaccessible to tourists, and the last time I checked, there was no longer any air connection. Not profitable enough.
Socotra is famous for its dragon's blood trees, although these are now also threatened with extinction. The excessive harvesting of the resin (the 'dragon's blood'), valuable for medicinal purposes, by the poor population raises serious concerns. Moreover, the islanders let their goats graze freely across the island, and we know that such practices can have severely negative consequences for the vulnerable fauna.
It has become a kind of asylum seeker. Therefore, I am very pleased that I can now let a Dracaena cinnabari grow peacefully in Harlingen. The (still) small cutting was delivered with the utmost care by Mark from drakenbloedboom.com.
I recommend everyone who wants to save a rare species from extinction to order their specimen from drakenbloedboom.com. It is worth it.

Today I received my package, very happy with my order. Mark has supported me with advice and assistance to get everything sorted with the shipping (issues with Post NL), for which I am very grateful. Furthermore, the seeds look fantastic, as does the way they are shipped!! Definitely a recommendation to order here!! On to the next order.

I have now also ordered a little dragon from Diego. I am very happy with it. I received excellent help through email contact. If you are in doubt, go for it because you will be greatly assisted, and at the same time, you help preserve this beautiful species because it should not be the case that this lovely tree disappears.

After a trip to Tenerife, I was impressed by the Dragon Blood Tree, and since we have a garden with many Mediterranean plants and shrubs, I started looking for the Dragon Blood Tree, but that wasn't easy... many Dracaenas are offered in garden centers, but not the real Dragon Blood Tree. Diego in South Limburg grows them himself, and I found his website on the internet. I got a good impression and contacted him to buy a small shrub... potted in Mediterranean potting soil with pumice stones and placed indoors during the winter season with little water... after the frost, I put it outside and watered it, and it grew and started forming a lot of new leaves! Good purchase... satisfied! If the tree really grows big, which is possible... I'm curious how it will do in the winter inside the house!
