This legend tells that - during the conquest of the Canary Islands - a Guanche princess fled from the conquerors when they tried to abduct her. The young woman sought refuge in the crown of the thousand-year-old Dragon's Blood Tree (El Drago Milenario). The 'conquistadores' shot their arrows at the dragon's blood tree in the hope of hitting the woman. They saw large red drops falling and suspected that it must be the blood of the Guanche princess. The conquistadores retreated. In reality, red sap dripped from the Dragon's Blood Tree, thus saving the life of the Guanche princess. This red sap is also known as dragon's blood.
