Deze legende vertelt dat - tijdens de verovering van de Canarische eilanden - een Guanche prinses weg vluchtte van de veroveraars toen zij haar probeerden te ontvoeren. De jonge vrouw zocht haar toevlucht in de kroon van de duizendjarige Drakenbloedboom (El Drago Milenario). De ‘conquistadores’ schoten hun pijlen af op de drakenbloedboom in de hoop de vrouw te raken . Zij zagen grote rode druppels vallen en vermoedden dat dat het bloed van de Guanche prinses moest zijn. De conquistadores bliezen hun aftocht. In werkelijkheid druppelde er rood sap uit de Drakenbloedboom en daardoor het leven van de Guanche prinses redde. Dit rode sap is ook wel bekend als drakenbloed
